What is a Label Service?

Label Generation as a Service

Label Service is a REST API that generates GS1-128 carton labels and SSCC-18 pallet labels. You send shipment data (item, quantity, carton, and label ID) and the API returns a print-ready label in your preferred format.

No label software to install, no templates to build and maintain, no per-seat licensing. Just a simple API call that returns a compliant label every time.

Label Types

GS1-128 Carton Label

The standard shipping label used for carton-level identification in retail and distribution. Encodes SSCC, GTIN, quantity, lot, and other application identifiers in GS1-128 barcode format.

  • Configurable application identifiers (AIs)
  • Trading partner-specific layouts and field requirements
  • ZPL, PDF, and PNG output formats
  • 4x6 and 4x8 label sizes
SSCC-18 Pallet Label

Pallet-level labels using the 18-digit Serial Shipping Container Code. Required by most major retailers and DCs for inbound pallets. Supports mixed and homogeneous pallet configurations.

  • Auto-generated SSCC numbers using your GS1 company prefix
  • Retailer-specific pallet label formats
  • Mixed pallet and single-SKU pallet support
  • ZPL, PDF, and PNG output formats

How It Works

1

Configure Your Trading Partners

Set up label configurations for each trading partner once or use our label library to get started quickly. We store the spec: field layout, barcode symbology, required AIs, and print dimensions.

2

Call the API

At the time of shipment, POST your shipment data (items, quantities, carton or pallet ID, ship-to) along with the label ID to the Label Service API.

3

Receive a Print-Ready Label

The API returns the label in your requested format: ZPL for direct thermal printing, PDF for desktop or online printing, or PNG for display or archiving.

4

Print and Ship

Send the output directly to your label printer or integrate into your WMS, OMS, or warehouse workflow. No intermediate steps.
